What we do

Residential development

Our members are increasingly becoming involved in residential development, for two main reasons.

First, there is a growing requirement for developers to build mixed-use developments, with the inclusion of affordable housing as a planning requirement to maximise the use of the land.

Secondly, there are often residential opportunities in regeneration schemes on brownfield sites, where our members can use their commercial property skills and construction techniques to provide housing.

The planning system isn't always helpful when it comes to residential development. Our members have concerns about planning policy and the efficiency of the planning system in general; this issue is covered in the Planning section of this website.

However, there are some issues, such as Planning Policy Statement 3 and the interplay between planning policy and encouraging investment in housing, that are specific to residential property and are covered in this section.
