What we do
Insurance
We believe that our members should be transparent about the commissions they receive for arranging insurance and therefore should be proactive in disclosing these.
We have an expert insurance committee, which meets regularly to consider insurance issues affecting the commercial property industry.
At regular intervals in recent years it has considered the various threats to the ability of the industry to have full insurance cover. The need for terrorism cover has been particularly acute and we have sought to influence the remit and scope of Pool RE - the state-backed reinsurer.
The regulation of insurance activities by the Financial Services Authority is another issue that has been prominent.
Likewise, with an eye to the future, there is a need for the government to fund flood defences, which in turn should help ensure there is sufficient flood cover.
